Portrait

I’ve been doing portrait sessions with friends lately as a means to practice and improve myself with non-models. It’s kinda hard at times because everyone expects that you should be doing something for money. in some ways i get that and i certainly wouldn’t mind getting paid to do what I love. I can’t decide if it’s really a certain goal or if I want to keep doing things for my personal love of it. that’s probably a crazy though though. love doesn’t pay the bills. anyways thats a bit off topic. i’ve known marielle since college. she’s a fellow photographer and also a graphic designer.

odd job odd day

was up waay to early to try and find a home for the cat i’m fostering. When you watch the sunrise in an overcast rainy cloudy city you can really appreciate the weird cold urban landscapes that i live in. these are over the course of a very long day from sunrise cat delivery to hiking and art shows. carrying my camera with me at all times helps me find something beautiful in all this hectic-ness.

"fall" in los angeles

these photos are a little old but i finally had a chance to go through the stills i took of all the locations I went to in los angeles. I was often location scouting for a shoot while i was there. i never actually got to use any of these locations but i still managed to capture a few gems. can’t wait to go back and have a friend or a model to shoot with.

In Town

Went exploring with Jess recently. I’ve been trying to find locations I can shoot within a 30min drive from home. This was in the northern part of the east bay a little north of Richmond. There seem to be a few other interesting spots around this area. I need to come back again soon.

try, try, and try again

Not all adventures are successful to the degree you want. At some point exploring is just that. Trial and error. I live in Oakland California. The city is pressed up against hills. These hills guard against the sunrise to the east so in order to observe this impressive daily occurence one must rise up into the hills to meet it. I often go to the same location because it is one of the highest peaks and always has an impressive view. Like anyone though this can become repetitive so this day I ventured into a new spot. The results were mixed as the geography is scattered with many opportunities to view the sun. Here are some of the photos from this attempt.

Otherworld

We had some pretty huge fires up a little north of the bay area. We’ve been flooded with heavy smoke that has given the landscape and city an unfamiliar haze of bleak beauty. I love it and at the same time am reminded of the incredible loss and destruction. Here’s a little beauty I found in all that smoke.

New Highs

I recently purchased a Mavic Pro 2 and have been using it to experiment with new photography vantage points. There is still alot to learn including the video functionality, but I’m pretty stoked to be able to use this for my creative exploits.

Peace and Lily's

I had the pleasure of working with my friend Bailey again. She is extremely talented and a dream to work with. Professional, creative, adventurous. She wanted to do something themed with earth, greenery, and soft pale tones. She created a mood board and I scouted some locations in golden gate park. With the fires recently it was hard to nail down a day but we eventually scored a clear moment. Here are some of my favs.

First Post

I’m in the middle of designing this website. And through a ton of hours and experiment it is finally coming together. It feels really exciting and I can’t wait to get it off the ground. The last main step is to get a logo design. I submitted my thoughts and ideas to a friend and graphic designer and am now waiting for feedback.

Anyways I was recently connected with a friend who is planning on making a tangible photo book with film photography. It’s gonna be released a few times a year hopefully and I hope to be featured in it. I’m not exactly sure thematically what I would like to put in it. My film style is fairly diverse and I wanted to create a consistent theme for it. Anyways here are a few photos with a narrow theme.
